Friday, Deadwood, SD

 Deadwood in the Wild West
Yes, poor Wild Bill was shot in the back here in Saloon #10.   KOA has free bus shuttle to town every hour which is so convenient when camping.  Right in the town middle on Main St., every hour it is shut down for 15 minutes to stage a gun fight reenactment.   In Saloon #10 they also reenact the shooting of Wild Bill.   For $5 down the block you can see the trial redone.  Spent a little time talking with the actors.  They do this all summer every hour and stroll the street for atmosphere the rest of the time.   One is 22 and lives in the area.  The other was my age and they just had fun doing it. Walked to end of town for lunch at Tin Lizzie gambling hall.  This seems to be more of a local place.   A soup and salad bar lunch for $3.99 with Sr. house card.  My gambling just broke even here adding in the free beer.

Town trolley for $1 takes you all over even into Lead the next town.   I asked where the church was so she even drove by there.   Eight years ago a fire threatened the town and everyone had to evacuate but all was saved.

Spent the rest of the evening with Jan and Dougley who for the last eight years are just traveling in their RV.   They really like Deadwood and plan to stay into July.   We went to 5:30 MASS AT St. Aphosis and then a free buffet at the Silverado with my senior Silverado card: shrimp, veggies, rib tips, meatballs, carving station and desserts. While waiting for KOA shuttle bus put in $1 to receive $18.75.
